Over the last couple of weeks, two of Kent’s very own judges have undertaken practical on-field assessments as part of their official upgrade journey through the Archery GB Judging pathway.

For those who might not be aware, there are four domestic judging grades in the UK. Each step up the ladder brings new responsibilities, deeper expertise, and greater opportunities to lead major events:

• 1. Candidate: The starting level. Pull on the uniform, show up, gain valuable on-field experience, and help judge events alongside qualified officials.
• 2. County: Represents the first fully qualified, official tier in the Archery GB judging pathway.
• 3. Regional: This is where things get really interesting! As a Regional judge, you can step up as the Judge in Charge of Record Status tournaments (that do not include head-to-head matches).
• 4. National: The highest domestic level. On top of overseeing Record Status tournaments with head-to-head matches, National judges can be appointed as the Judge in Charge of major national events.

A few weeks back, Erin Barkway travelled to Waterside Archers in Hampshire, where she successfully passed her practical assessment to become a Regional Judge.

Congratulations to Marc Carroll – Now a County Judge!

The success didn’t stop there. This past weekend, our very own County President, Marc Carroll, took his next official step on the field and successfully passed his assessment to become a fully qualified County Judge.

Balancing committee duties with official training is no small feat, and we are incredibly proud to see Marc expanding his credentials out on the shooting line.

What a fantastic day of archery! On Saturday, February 21st, The Sittingbourne School played host to the highly anticipated 4-Way Inter-County Indoor Match. The atmosphere was electric as the finest archers from across the region gathered to represent their home counties.

​The competition saw a fierce but friendly showdown between Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, and Essex. With Recurve, Compound, Barebow, and Longbow teams all taking to the line, the hall was a spectacle of precision and focus.

​A Record-Breaking Performance

​The highlight of the day was undoubtedly a masterclass in Compound shooting. We were honored to have Paralympian Jodi Grinham on the line, who put in a world-class performance.

​Jodi didn’t just win her category; she set a new GB National Record, proving exactly why she is one of the best in the business. Seeing that level of excellence in person—and watching a record fall—was an inspiration to every archer in the hall.
